Tactical combat built on hard choices

Combat in Devilbreath is built around a simple idea with a lot of tension: every choice you make decides what your opponent can do next.

Open-book combat tutorial spread with a monk on a village road and a tactical grid.

Combat grid

Each fight plays out on a shared combat grid.

Your Move Sets Theirs

Each fight plays out on a shared combat grid. On your turn, you can only pick from the highlighted row. The position of the item you take determines which column the enemy must play from next.

Every Pick Is A Tradeoff

Each choice helps you now, but also shapes your opponent’s next options. Taking the best item is not always the best move if it gives the enemy a strong reply.

Position Becomes A Weapon

The same rule applies in reverse, turning combat into a chain of forced responses. Winning is not just about damage, but about steering the board into bad choices for your opponent.
